So I really want to do a day trip/ half day trip kayaking the Verdon Gorge. I will be traveling next summer by myself and wondered if it is possible to take the bus there and back with kayaking in one day. None of the websites have times so I am wondering if anyone has done this. OR is there a tour operated from Nice or Marseille or anywhere accessible by train. Right now I am planning to stay in Marseille but I can always change my plans, I would really love to do this.
Rick's Provence & Riviera book only recommends the Grand Canyon du Verdon to drivers and doesn't mention boating there. It's at least 2 hours drive each way from either of the major cities. About 10 years ago I cycled in the Gorge du Verdun area. We saw the kayaks from a high vantage point and then as we descended we saw them close up in the tourquoise waters. It was stunning; try to make this trip happen. I think that travelling to and from Marseille would eat into your day with a day trip plan. There are some charming small towns that you could stay in for one night to maximize your fun in Gorge du Verdun. We stayed in Moustier (definitely) and Fayence (I think).
