Interested in doing this, but...can anyone recommend the simplest way to get there and back to Paris in the evening? I would like to pay someone to pick me up at my hotel and cart me down there and back, if anyone has done that and can recommend a service.
Are you staying in your own property or someone else's? If the latter, I'd ask them if you trust them.

We will be in a hotel - this is for a December trip...just hoping someone here has done this (hired a service, taken a minibus, or whatever).
Their website includes directions using a train to Melun and a shuttle to the chateau.
Perhaps things have changed, the website is unclear, but the shuttle used to only run in the warmer months.
The website says the shuttle runs…”from 30 March…

The shuttle schedule on the site, from "30 March", is fairly limited, implies that service is available only during the traditional tourist season (April to ?). And it is pretty limited, too.
For the XMAS dates, the website describes the train ride, then catching a taxi or Uber? - it is otherwise unclear. I have read some posts elsewhere on the lack of ground transport at times, and since the light show at the chateau ends after dark, I am not crazy about competing for a taxi to the local train station with hundreds of others in the same pickle. Hence why I am interested in and willing to pay for a door to door transport to/from my hotel in Paris.
I have read comments that the best way to get from Paris to the chateau and back to Paris is in your own car...well I am not renting a car for this purpose.
Years ago I took a bus that was run by Paris City Vision to Vaux-le-Vicomte. The problem was that we spent most of the time in traffic and little at the château. I wouldn't recommend it. The Château at Xmas is absolutely splendid, though. Get there if you can.
I bought a ticket for the Christmas Extravaganza in 2023. It was the most fabulous, incredible, wonderful event that I have ever gone to! There is a there a bus. It is provided by The Chateau and there is a $5 fee for round trip bus service. You exit the train station and with your back to the station walk straight down the street and the bus is in front of a restaurant/bar or at least it was last year. You must get the information for this year's event. What happened in the summer, what happened last year, would even happened to me is irrelevant you need to know what is occurring in 2024! Have a fabulous time
