Ok all you francophiles out there, this is a very specific question so hoping maybe someone has information.
The once a year Rendez-vous Grand Siecle event is happening at Vaux-Le-Vicomte in May and luckily my itinerary worked out that I can attend.
Questions:
1) has anyone rented period costumes on site and was it easy? The website has a link to a local shop that appears to require fitting appointments which seems a bit onerous.
2) Has anyone purchased the optional "After Prestige" tickets and if so, was that part of the day worth 60 euros?
Thanks!
I'm sorry, I can't answer your question, but I will say that I'm dead jealous that you're going. I've always wanted to.
Having visited the Vaux several times, I think it would be a gorgeous event. I do hope you'll come back and report on your experience. I'd look forward to it!
Enjoy!
Vaux-Le-Vicomte, le Rendez Vous Grand Siècle, Follow up:
Costume rental for kids: easy, cheap, and on site. Costume rental for adults: more complicated. Adults can rent a costume for the day but only to be worn while touring the inside of the chateau. Their website is not clear about this and they didn't respond to my emails asking about it. I didn't see any adults doing this inside the chateau rental option. I saw adults coming in with their costumes and wearing them inside as well as on the grounds. It would be odd, IMO, to just have a costume for the chateau. The costumes were extremely impressive. Option 2: they have costume partners in the area but this costs about 300 euros and you have to book a fitting appointment. Then you have to worry that you will damage the costume while you wear a dress that drags on the ground all day. The 3rd alternative is bring your own costume which for a woman would be a suitcase nightmare given the size of hoops under dresses. You could consider dressing as a man as the costume would take much less suitcase space. We ended up just bringing and wearing wigs, jewelry, lace gloves and fans, sort of half way in costume which was the most reasonable thing we could do. Because we were not in full costume we could not buy tickets to the "After Prestige" party. This was fine as there were many activities during the day and we were there for several hours so it was a full day. Le Grand Siecle and Vaux-Le-Vicomte were very special! I would like to return for their candle lit evenings or Le Grand Noel at Christmas.
Thanks for coming back and reporting, Tu Vas Ou The Vaux is a special place and you were so lucky to attend the Rendez-Vous.
