An exhibition of 31 of Van Gogh's paintings, “Van Gogh in Provence: Modernizing Tradition” is on display in Arles until September 11. Has anyone seen this? Comments?
Visited the exhibition during a June "My Way" tour. Took the train from our tour hotel in Avignon to Arles (easy - about 10 Euros each way). Used the free bus from the train station all around Arles (check the RS guidebook for details). The Van Gogh exhibit was wonderful . . . many of the paintings have not left the Netherlands museums for many years, if at all. I purchased my timed ticket on-line via the Foundation Van Gogh but, arrived early and the ticket was honored. TIP: Be sure to visit the Archeological Museum - Quite a find! Arles is a lovely city. I plan to spend more time there in the future.
We loved the Van Gogh exhibit in Arles! We arrived at opening time and walked straight in. Amazing Van Gogh paintings up and personal with no crowds. Highly recommended!
We also visited the exhibition in June during a week-long stay in Avignon. It was an easy train ride to Arles and we walked to the museum from the train station. We arrived a while before the museum opened, so had some time to wander around Arles, also a pleasant activity. We walked up to the entry and bought our tickets on the spot. The exhibit was well worth the short trip from Avignon, plus we've always enjoyed Arles and we were glad to have a bit more time there.
Thank you everyone! I have purchased our tickets online and am really excited to see this exhibition and enjoy our visit to Arles.
Great! Now you will be able to skip the line! There wasn't much of a line when we got there, but I did notice that people who had advanced purchased tickets walked straight in. FYI: If you bring a daypack, you will need to store it in a locker. Be sure to have a couple of Euros for the lockers which will be refunded when you leave. Also, cameras without flash are allowed. Enjoy!
