Van Gogh article: painting from Arles

Hi Everyone,

I spent time in Arles last summer and visited the spot of VanGogh's 'Cafe Terrace at Night' while on the RS Loire/South of France tour. I just read an interesting article about possible religious symbolism in the painting that had previously gone unnoticed. You might be interested.

For some reason, I can't get the hyperlink to work, but if you google: Van Gogh may have hidden 'The Last Supper' within one of his most famous paintings

you'll find it on it on Huffington Post. :) Enjoy!

Gretchen, thank you for posting this. I'm a Van Gogh fan-atic. Have been to the same spot you mention, in fact, had a glass du vin there, and thought of Van Gogh while drinking it. Although I guess he would have been having absinthe. There is a theory that absinthe poisoning caused him to see colors in a different way than others, and that he may actually have been seeing those unique colors that he painted. It's just a theory.

Seeing his room at the asylum near St. Remy was touching.
Finally, in May, I'm making the pilgrimage to his grave and that of his brother, just north of Paris. His letters to his brother are, well, you know what I mean.....

As a Van Gogh fan be sure to visit Auvers sur Oise where he spent his final days and is buried. A walking tour of the town includes small signs with reproductions of the pictures painted in the various spots along the way. It is also where the famous church painting was done and of course one of his final paintings of the fields near where he is buried.
