Valensole - is it worth renting a car?

Hi everyone! Me and my boyfriend are doing a provence trip by the end of june, and we were wondering if it is worth it to rent a car to go see the lavender fields in Valensole, since our base is in Aix-en-Provence.
We will first stay in Aix, and then Avignon, so i’m also open for other field’s suggestions. :)

Without a car, you won't be able to explore the lavender fields, so your options are either renting one or booking a guided tour. There are organized tours available out of Aix-en-Provence.

Needless to say, renting a car will be way more efficient if you know how to map out your itinerary

Absolutely worth it and, yes, rent a car. That way when you see a breathtaking field of lavender you can pull off the road, get out of the car, and just take it in. The road between the village of Valensole and the dot on the map that is Puimoisson has beautiful fields on both sides , and to the north you can see the beginning of the Alps.

If you get an early start, you can combine the lavender fields with a stop at Moustiers Ste Marie and conceivably the Gorge de Verdon, although that may be a bit ambitious. Sticking closer to Valensole, there are some tiny villages that have no tourists at all , like Esparron de Verdon, which is a medieval village on a cliff.

In any case, a car gives you freedom that you’ll appreciate.

I hope you love Aix as much as I do.
