Hello fellow travelers! I'm planning a trip first week of October to Provence with my sister and mother (in her 70's-not sure if this is relevant). We are renting a car, staying in Avignon and going to Aix, Arles, Les Baux, St. Remy, and hill towns of Luberon (L’isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Roussillon, Gordes, Vaison-la-Romaine). Is it worth going to Valensole in October if the lavender is not in bloom?
If you’re up for a drive then go for it. You get a good sense of the plateaus. There is a town centre in Valensole that is very cute with shops and cafes. I was there on a Saturday for the market. There are also distilleries along the way to pop in so look into those for opening times. Otherwise I imagine it will be fields and fields of harvested lavender bushes. I went in June this year about a week or so before bloom and it was like a grey haze so slightly different than I imagined. Haha, but there were still plenty of people taking photos.
Not too far in Manosque is the L’Occitane Factory. They have tours in English if you check the time. The shop is an extra 10% off and tax free if that’s of interest.
Thanks Jenufa! We'll see if we have time.
