Val d’Isere or Wengen, which would be best for family ski trip?

We are planning a family ski trip after Christmas this year. Although my grandchildren will be skiing, I probably have given up my skis. Which location would be best for skiing and other activities.

It would be helpful if you added a bit more info as to things like affordability, access,
ski level, lodging preferences, etc.

Both of these places will be pretty expensive from a lodging perspective. Val has
more difficult slopes overall, but is a larger and more integrated ski area, especially
when you factor in Tignes. Wengen is probably more picturesque and closer to
what your perception of an Alpine ski town might look like.

Val d'Isère is already pretty good for non-skiers, but Wengen is amazing for that. Wengen also wins on scenery, hands down!
Conversely, the skiing is far more extensive in Val d'Isère, with more challenging terrain available (but Val d'Isère has plenty of mellow terrain too), and a better snow record - an important consideration around Christmas.

Price should not hugely different, but Wengen is probably a bit more expensive.

All in all, if skiing is the top priority, then Val d'Isère wins, otherwise Wengen.

+1 for Balso's response. Wengen is gorgeous. Val d'Isere for skiing though. Depends on your priorities.
