Utah Beach and Mont Saint Michel

Hello!

Traveling to France and Normandy next month and am super excited!

Question - is it possible to visit Utah Beach in the morning and then visit Mont Saint Michel in the afternoon? We will be departing from Bayeux in the morning and staying near MSM that night. Will visit the tapestry, Omaha beach, and the Arromanches before heading out.

Any help is apprecaited.

Thank you!
Wayne

Of course it's possible. They're a bit under 2 hours apart by car. I assume your sentence that starts with "Will visit the tapestry..." means that those visits would be on a different day than the one that involves visiting Utah Beach and driving to Mont-Saint-Michel. If not, then I suggest you rethink your plans.

Figure 45 minutes to an hour to get from Bayeux to Utah Beach. If you spent 3 hours at Utah Beach and then drove to Mont-Saint-Michel you could be there by mid-afternoon if you left Bayeux fairly early (8 or 9) for Utah Beach.

Visiting Utah Beach can be done fairly quickly if you just want to see the beach and some fortifications just North of the museum. But I have always felt that the Museum at Utah is the best museum int he entire D-day area. Depending on your interests, you could easily spend a couple of hours just there. They do a good job of covering the life under occupation of the local inhabitants. As for those fortifications, you can take a long walk North from there along the beach and the dunes and see many sites. You can also take a drive North and see even more—including the area where Philippe Leclerk stepped ashore to bring the French 2e Division into the battle of Normandy.
