Using Paris Museum Pass & making museum entry reservations - 4 adults

We will be 4 adults (not related) traveling together. If we buy the Paris Museum Pass online all together, I see that it provides a place for 4 names. Will we get four unique pass IDs? Or just one? When booking a reserved entry time for 4 people, will the museum require 4 different pass IDs? Or will we use just one, if it's issued under one ID?

We're trying to determine if it's better for 1 person to purchase the passes for all or if there's a reason/advantage to everyone buying their own?

*UPDATE - We will be in the region for 4 days. 3 members of our group are new to Paris, so we do have a list of museums, as well as Versailles, that we'd like to visit (including some of the smaller ones). We've done the math and the cost of the pass makes sense for us.

What I am hearing here is that making the reservations for the major sites before purchasing the pass (online or in person) is possible. Simply choosing the Museum Pass option when making the reservation is all that's required, up front. Does this sound right?

Thanks!

When booking a reserved entry time for 4 people, will the museum require 4 different pass IDs? Or will we use just one, if it's issued under one ID? Requires just a jumble of ###s (9 or 10 digits, can't remember) to book online - ergo, you can book before you get the pass if you want to buy the phyiscal (Non E) pass while in Paris.

And just make sure the Paris Museum Pass is a good fit for you.

IF you plan to go to the Louvre and are going to use your Museum Pass for entry, keep an eye on the official ticketing site to see if any days are sold in your time frame. Right now there are tickets thru the end of March and no dates are showing as sold for Museum Pass holders. During busy times last year forum members noted that sometimes Museum Pass time slots were sold out although tickets were available for purchase for the same time frames.

And oddly...when I just went to the above site I got put in an online queue because it said "traffic was heavy" on the site. I've never had that happen!

I can’t answer your specific question but I have some recent insight to share.

Absolutely, as suggested upthread, crunch the numbers and see if you save money using the pass, otherwise just buy individual tickets at the official site websites. I’ve used the pass previously and on two recent trips (2019 & 2022) we did the math and the pass did not pencil out. However, for an upcoming February 2024 museum-heavy visit we did the math and using the pass will save us money.

A few finer details about making reservations with the pass:

  1. Not all, actually only a handful, of museums/monuments require timed entry reservations. I count seven sites requiring reservations including Ste-Chapelle, Versailles and the Louvre. Here’s a link to that info:
    Time Slots

    1. The Louvre has improved the system and it is possible to make Paris Museum Pass timed slot reservations without having the passes already purchased. I did this two weeks ago without needing to input dummy numbers as one needed to do in the past. I’m not sure how it works for the other 6 sites on the list.
    2. Keep a close eye on the day you want to enter as even if the day is not sold out, your preferred time of day may be sold out for passes.

My Louvre reservation were emailed to me and plan to purchase our passes at the first museum on our itinerary, the Pompidou Center.

^ ^ Yes, this is correct.

They are easy to buy in person when you get to Paris as well if you don't mind having a paper pass instead of an e-pass.
