My husband and I are traveling to France and are wondering what the best idea was for phone service. We each have Samsung Galaxy s5 phones and our service provider is Verizon. For $25 per phone we can get 100 MB per phone for data and $.99 per min for all calls, $.50 per sent text, $.05 per received text through Verizon. We were also told that it would a better idea to unlock our phones and buy a Sim card when we get to France. Just wondering how that would work or if anyone had any experience with Verizon in France. Thanks!!!
Unlocking would be the best answer by far,esp with you both having phones.
It may well he that if you call each other with verizon you get billed both ends of the call.
Lebara Sims would give you free calls to each other.
The €10All-inOne, gives you 500MBs, and 4 hours call time ,inc US
Just a thought - I know that AT&T and T-Mobile use the GSM technology that allows for SIM cards, not sure if Verizon does or not. I think they are CDMA which is a NA only setup. Might want to verify that - if the phones don't have SIM cards, then you cannot simply pickup a new card when you arrive - t'ain't nowhere to put it. :)
You can buy unlocked GSM/SIM phones on that large online auction site, or do a web search for unlocked GSM phone. If you are looking for data, find a slightly older smartphone that uses a USB charger - rather then a phone specific one. Easier ot find a cable while travelling if its prety generic.
