Has anyone been able to board a Eurostar from St Pancras with a replacement US passport (passport lost in London).?
I cannot answer your question but do look at this...France does not seem to accept that as a tourist passport...perhaps if you're just using it to get home?
Are you in London right now, and planning on heading to the U.S. Embassy for the replacement passport? Or do you already have it?
EDIT After I posted my initial response (below), I saw that NWValerie had posted the response above. The Emergency Passport nowadays must be different from the replacement passport that my husband got in London twenty years ago. So this may or may not help, but:
Twenty years ago, my husband had to get a replacement passport at the U.S. Embassy in London, because they wouldn’t let him on the plane at Heathrow bound for Sofia, Bulgaria, due to his existing passport expiring less than six months beyond the flight date. We had made it to England, but couldn’t fly onward to Bulgaria without a refreshed passport. That passport (maybe not like today’s emergency?) was good for at least another two years (I don’t remember exactly), had official cover and interior pages, and allowed him to travel throughout Europe on planes and trains on several trips. He did have to go to a place down the street from the embassy to have passport photos taken and bring them back to the embassy for them to paste one into the passport, before laminating that page.
These days, with chips in passports and widespread digital photography, I don’t know how “emergency” passports vary from regular passports. And I don’t know if Eurostar is somehow stricter about passports than anybody else. So while I can’t personally attest to boarding Eurostar with a replacement passport, I wanted to share this experience with you.
It certainly appears France does not accept US emergency passport unfortunately. Nothing to do with Eurostar, but with French immigration rules.
This is interesting. When I lost my passport 20 years ago in London, I had to get a replacement passport, but it was good for 3 months, so I was covered till at least I got back home and was able to replace it.
Does it have an expiration date on the replacement U.S. passport you are referring to, Nancy?
Per DoS, France does not accept an Emergency passport. https://travel.state.gov/en/international-travel/travel-advisories/france.html
Nancy, are you returning to London after Paris?
If so, don't forget your UK ETA is linked to your original passport, not your emergency passport. You'll need to reapply for the ETA.
Nancy, did they say anything when the replacement passport was issued?
An Emergency replacement passport is really supposed to be used to get you home. However, some Schengen countries will allow it.
Sadly, France is not one of them. Neither does Belgium or the Netherlands.
If you really want to go to France, I believe Germany does accept them for entry. You could fly to Germany and then take the train to Paris. Of course, you have to hope there are no surprise border checks by the French authorities.
Double check to make sure Germany accepts them.
