US to France Passport requirements

i am traveling to France May 9th, returning May 20th and my passport expires August 12.
will i be allowed to use that?
i am concerned about renewing it at this late date when it takes so long and now i am reading that you need 3 months after your return date? is that correct?
thank you

You have no choice but to renew your passport. The Schengen zone rule is that your passport must be valid a full 90 days after your planned return date.

I believe that it has been quite clearly stated that your passport must have validity 90 days beyond your planned return date, not the date of your entry into France.

If you do not renew your passport, you will not be boarded on an aircraft with a destination of France, or anywhere else in the Schengen zone. You may, of course, confirm this information with your air carrier.

Thank you for the reply. I did ask my airlines and they said i should be fine but i just wanted to be sure.
i will definately want to renew just to be sure now.
i know there is a 5 week time if you send it in the mail and i am hesitate to do that.
how sure is it if you request an expedited renewal? and how reliable is the emergency appt in Seattle if I dont receive it by travel time?
they said i could call if i dont have it by two weeks before my trip?
thanks so much

A recent poster found that appointments were not readily available at the last minute. Two weeks out, perhaps. If you tried to make an appointment today, how far out would you have to make the appointment for the Seattle office?

i was told that i could not get an emergency appt in less tan 2 weeks from travel so to call on April 26th. but an appt is not guaranteed.
Do you think i should go ahead and send it in and try to get it expedited and then if i dont get it call for the appt?
thank you

My son recently applied for his first passport. He paid extra to have it expedited. He sent the application and check on March 2nd and received his passport by the end of March. It surprised us how quickly he received it. I believe there is also an option to have overnight shipping. He didn't pay for that.

Not every airline employee at every service location will necessarily know Schengen entry rules. Usually the validity question is between an automatic 6 months (a common misconception) or 90 days beyond planned departure date, which can be 6 months if you plan on staying the full 90 days allowed.

If you are a non-EU national wishing to visit or travel within the EU, you will need a passport:

valid for at least 3 months after the date you intend to leave the EU country you are visiting,
which was issued within the previous 10 years.

Your next step will be to obtain an emergency passport renewal, which you may be able to complete quickly:
