US raised to level 4?

After submitting an online reservation for a restaurant in Domme, I received a reply from the proprietor that she's hearing that France (EU?) will be raising the US to a level 4 and that entry will be further restricted and or denied. Curious to hear if anyone else has heard such news, or what that would mean exactly in regards to entry into France - complete denial, or perhaps just a rapid test required?
It's less than two weeks before we plan to leave, and I feel like next week is the week a final decision will have to be made, unless of course the EU makes it for us.

Partially correct; on August 9th the CDC raised FRANCE to a level 4, essentially saying "don't come" but the French government is not yet saying "you can't come". Here's a link for more info.:

We leave one week from today, 27 August...fingers crossed! We're vaccinated, have many kinds of masks on hand, have the French Health Pass App on our mobile phones and are awaiting our QR code from France.

I believe the EU health authority responsible for this updates it's levels every 2 weeks. And the next update is due next week. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see the US put to a level 4 (or whatever their equivalent is). Whether that means a total ban on tourists from the US, or just additional restrictions, I couldn't say. And each country can decide for itself if it will follow, or not.

We will be in France Oct 15-22nd. But we are arriving in Paris from Naples Italy. Just curious if that happens, would we fall under the restrictions from our citizenship or under travel restrictions if any from Italy from where we departed.

@ edryer I think the answer would depend on how long you had been in Italy.

Wonder too. We will have been in the EU/Schengen for 3 weeks before going to Paris 2 days before our return to the US, flying into France from Slovenia.

This certainly can get complicated. Someone of a particular nationality, even if they haven’t been there for some time, can get pigeonholed into a status, simply because of their nationality. And a big country that may have Covid-19 spikes (or Delta variant surges) hundreds of thousands of miles away from their primary residence may get rated based on their countrymen a long way away, not on their own behavior or most recent location. Stay tuned and monitor for updates. That doesn’t make current concerns, or travel planning, comfortable. I hope you get an acceptable situation - a call you can make and live with, or a decision made for you about which you can feel good.

It's the EU that meets and makes recommendations to the member countries. Decisions are suggestions, not binding. Bloomberg News published a story three weeks ago where the journalist speculated that rules could change and then specified for unvaccinated people from the US, but at the last recalibration, nothing was suggested. We have heard nothing from the French government.

We have been in France for six weeks, watch and read the news in both French and English daily, but are unaware of any possibilities described in previous answers.

If you are vaccinated and coming into France from Italy or Slovenia, there are no extra requirements. I have never heard of the situation Cyn described but then there is very little tourism by non-Europeans at this time.
