US Passport validity for France and Netherlands.

US Passport validity for France and Netherlands. Is it 6 months or is three months good enough? Leaving in March. Thanks.

The US State Department's website for both countries says that your passport must be valid for three months beyond the date of your scheduled departure from the Schengen Zone. I have read that the department recommends six just because. Here is the link for France and here is the one for the Netherlands. It makes sense that it is the same rule for both countries because it is a rule for the entire Schengen Zone.

Here is what the French government site says about passports:

"The following supporting documents must be presented at the request of the Border Police upon your arrival in France:

A valid passport issued less than 10 years before and valid for at least 3 months after the envisaged departure date;"

I just clicked on the link from Pam's post. I have to say that I have never had to show anything upon entry into France after the first bullet point but it's good to know the list of what might be required.
