We are staying in the old town in early October, 8-11. Previous post mention parking/driving(?)ban in old city is lifted in October. Also, previous posting said we must park down below and another said, if we are at hotel we are allowed to park in old city. I have contacted hotel, to date no response. Any recent experience out there?
Thanks
Small French businesses aren't always very good with email... Is there any way you can call them? They'll know best. Don't forget the time difference.
We were there September 2019 and parked outside of the walls. Hostellerie Le Beffroi has some parking spaces, but the streets in the old city are insanely narrow. If you are determined to park in the old city, have the extra car insurance. The chances of a scrape are real.
We stayed in Vaison-la-Romaine in June 2019 in the medieval city at Le Beffroi, similar to the poster above and he is absolutely correct. The street up to the hotel is not only narrow, there are several also hairpin turns. We were biking and walked our bikes down to the main road each day because of the precarious turns and cobblestone road. The 'garage' at the Beffroi where we kept our bikes overnight a tiny space but perhaps in the off-season they allow guests to park there. But you'd want to be driving a SmartCar to try and park in the garage.
We enjoyed our visit to Vaison so much that we are returning this June, again on bicycle and will stay in the medieval city but as previously, will probably eat most of our meals in the main town where there are more options. One restaurant we can highly recommend is Lum.
