As well it should be, but only the artisanal bakery ones, not anything factory made.

Amen, Bets! Every time I bite into my first baguette when I return, my heart melts.

As well it should be is right. A good baguette is one of the highlights of being in France.

Why is making bread in one chosen way "an integral part of human culture".

If you have to ask, I guess you haven't experienced the magic. I guess either one gets it, or they don't.

(250 grams of magic and perfection in our daily lives. An art-de-vivre French-style (A French know-how). We've fought for years with bakers and the world of gastronomy for its' recognition. The baguette is from now on a part of the intangible heritage of UNESCO.)

Point taken, Nick, and perhaps other bread making traditions should be recognized. Ethiopian injera is deservedly recognized, as is Armenian lavash made in a tandoor. Mexican food is recognized, which includes tortillas. Do UNESCO has listened to you. These are attributes to be proud of

Come north for a visit, so I can take you to the places that still make the bread that deserves this recognition.

Just to remind to Nick that among the 27 Unesco recognitions concerning food more than half are for Asia and Africa + Middle East

Everybody wants a UNESCO designation for something - there is a cross-section of tourists that ONLY do UNESCO stuff.

I remember sitting in a lovely restaurant in Ravenna and emailing Zoe. I had to ask her about the bread because after several days in Northern Italy, we still weren’t being served what we considered exceptional bread. She wrote back to say that we wouldn’t find it there. It just wouldn’t be like good bakery bread in France.

The CNN article image must be using a fake/prop baguette. She hasn't taken a bite out of it. :)

Think it has to do with the word, baguette and even pain bâton is way more elegant than stick bread or like the Dutch equivalent "stokbrood".

I saw this little piece of news yesterday covered on various stations as it absolutely should be ...CNN, BBC World, DW. On one segment the shot of the baguette included that of the price, 1.10 Euro.
