I've been trying to purchase two Paris Museum Passes on their official website . After entering credit card information, I get an error message reading, "Payment failure. You can try again with the same card". I've tried multiple times with the same card and a second card. The credit card companies say no payment requests were received (and denied). Is this a scam to harvest card numbers and security information?
Wonder if problems being caused by the general strikes going on in Paris just now? In the past I have occasionally had difficulty with some cards being denied for an overseas purchase, usually sorted by a call to the credit card company.
They probably require "3D" credit card verification. Why not just wait a buy it when you get to Paris. There is no problem with face-to-face credit card payments, it just has to do with on-line transactions.
You can buy the Paris Museum Pass at any of the museums. There is no benefit in purchasing it in advance
We were also trying to purchase on line today and couldn’t. Same message, credit card failure. A poster from 7 months ago also wrote a similar post. I wanted to buy it ahead of time just so I have one less thing to think about doing.
We’ll pick it up at the airport when we arrive.
You can also buy them at many Tabac shops, probably in the neighborhood of your hotel.
If you were wanting the electronic one you could try another card. I have been using my American Express card because it goes thru every time. Visa hangs up sometimes.
American Express is considered a "Travel" card, so it seems to dodge 3D verification that is required of "Bank" cards. You credit card company does not know about it because the European bank never sends the transaction to your credit card company because your card failed the 3D verification process.
No scam but some card processors don’t work with American cards but they will in person. That shouldn’t be the case for a purchase of this kind, but the complication does exist from time to time.
I had an issue buying ET ticket w my Capone card from the US; my USAA card worked fine, however. So it could also be your card issuer.
