We plan to take a day trip from Colmar to Freiburg. I have read that a Umweltplakette sticker may be needed. Can anyone provide more info regarding this? Is it needed? Where could we purchase one on route from Colmar to Freiburg? Is it an easy/quick process?
Our rental car is originating in France.

An easy solution is to park and one of the P+R lots and take the S-Bahn into central Freiburg.

So as long as I do not drive into Freiburg center, and I park in the P+R lots, I do not need to purchase the Umweltplakette sticker?
I would prefer to not go through the hassle of obtaining the sticker, but I also want to avoid getting a fine.
I parked here: P+R-Platz Paduaallee, Breisgauerstraße 1
Tram stop across the main road from the parking lot, about 7 (?) or so euros for a return ticket for the two of us. Ticket machine. Ten minute ride.
