Uber versus taxis in Paris

Are Ubers allowed in Paris and if so, are they as readily available as taxis? is there an app to order a taxi in Paris?

I use the G7 App in Paris. My friends who live in Paris or elsewhere in France find using BOLT more reliable than Uber and in fact we used it in Vernon to get back and forth from Giverny.

The official taxis can also use the bus lanes which the Ubers and Bolts can't use.

IF you are considering a taxi from the airport, go directly to the official taxi rank and let the line manager signal you to a cab. There is a flat rate of 56E (Right bank) or 65E (Left Bank) either to or from CDG. No tip needed.

As long as you understand that they may not show. After a couple of late cancellations I went to G7 and was much happier

G7 is far more reliable than Uber. And they arrive about 5 minutes early. Be there on time for your pick-up.

For non-time-sensitive rides, Uber/Bolt are fine and usually a bit cheaper. As long as the ride is long enough (like above 15€), I do not have cancellation issues.
G7 taxis are more reliable in time-sensitive circumstances.

I have experienced a number of Uber/Bolt no-shows. Not really good if you are on your way to the airport. For a ride back to your accommodation late at night, Bolt is worth the effort, but otherwise, take the métro/bus/taxi.

Add one more to the Uber no-show list. I don't use them anywhere, any longer, unless I have no other option.

We did multiple G7 taxis last week (one member of group having much difficulty with stairs). Rides were generally about 20 Euro plus or minus and they know where you are. App shows where your taxi is and with 4 people not really expensive for the convenience.

I highly recommend downloading the Taxi G7 app and using that for rides. I have never had a taxinot show up or cancel. I wish I could say the same thing about Ubers. I vowed after an especially obnoxious cancellation in March of this year to finally stop using Uber in Paris. In my case, I saw my Uber at the corner where I was waiting for it and opened the door and saw three women sitting in it heading to CDG. The driver tried to gaslight me telling me that no way was I correct even when I showed him the license plate number and the description of the car in the app on my phone. Then after he drove away, the message arrived from the Uber app saying that the driver had canceled.

G7 app for the win! Normally, I'd do an Uber in an unfamiliar city over a taxi because it's easy to order up and pay on the app - and also because it seems a little more secure.

However, in Paris the G7 app is really the best option. Every time I've ordered a ride through them it has been perfect. You can even order ahead (like for a transport to the airport) and they'll be right on time.

If ordering a taxi for a ride to the airport, order 2 days ahead, especially if for a very early ride or for a larger group. If flight is Wed., order on Monday. Just to be sure of availability. An extra charge of 7 euros to reserve is a bargain for the reliability and peace of mind of this very important ride. Uber is too unreliable IMO.
