Uber to CDG airport by 05:30 AM?

Our flight is at 7:30 AM from Charles de Gaule (CDG) and I want to know if I can rely on Uber to pick us up from the 18th arrondissement at around 4:30 AM. We would prefer this to taxi, if possible. However, I don't think Uber can be reserved, so we would be waking up and hoping for an Uber to be available at around 4:30 AM.

If you don't think we should use Uber, do you recommend a particular taxi service? We've hardly ever taken a taxi before... how far in advance should we book? Can we pay with credit card? Is it customary to tip? How much?
Thanks!

I do recommend a cab. That's an early flight and you want to make sure you make it. G7 cabs are totally reliable. http://www.taxisg7.com/order-taxi/order-taxi-telephone. Flat fee to airport 55 or 50 Euros, depending on where you're staying. You can order online or call -they have English speakers there.

They take credit cards. And you don't really need to tip, but I do a few Euros generally.

Yep - Uber's super reliable and there are so many around Paris that you can definitely count on finding one in the wee hours. CDG is a very very quick trip from the 18th. No more than 30 mins max.

Your cost should be 57 euros -- 50 for the taxi fare and 7 for the advance booking fee if you book the night before. If you call for immediate dispatch, the booking fee is slightly less (4 euros) but I would call the night before. I don't think that you should use Uber for this particular trip because of the lack of ability to reserve ahead of time.

Yes, my suggestion of 5 was high--3 is closer, but we always tip. Growing up in Paris, my husband's family never took taxis, but they were friends and neighbors with drivers and knew how hard they work and how little they make. Now that we're a rung up the ladder, and can afford taxis, we always tip. So do our Parisian friends and family.

FYI: after that cab drops someone at the airport, the driver has a two hour wait in line below level until it's his or her turn to come up to arrivals to pick up a new passenger. They visit with each other, drink coffee, but they aren't earning any money during this time. Those few euros we tip make a difference for them.

G7 also has an App. You set it up, add your credit card, like Uber, and your all set. No cash needed during pick up/drop off.

With a high risk situation like a flight always book the night before. It is not always possible to get cabs for the airport at the last minute and I would not count on Uber at that hour.

I see reference to G7 Taxi, and I have seen good reviews of them before. I looked at their web site and saw that you can book a taxi up to 2 weeks in advance. Does anyone know how they handle advance reserved airport pickups, given the uncertainty of flight times and transit times?

Given the exact arrival time uncertainty and the fact that airport cab fares are set prices now, it's probably just easier to go to the taxi stand when you arrive. I like G7, though, for a scheduled ride to the airport.

Be outside at least ten minutes before your scheduled pick up time. The last thing you want is for the driver to show up at 4:28 and leave because he didn't see you.

Thanks, everyone! I ended up reserving a G7 taxi and will be sure to be outside and ready 5 minutes before the scheduled pickup time. Uber may be available at such an early hour, but I'd rather have the confidence of a reservation.

According to the lady on the phone, we can pay with credit card once the cab arrives. I assume the tip should be in cash? I've kept several Euro handy in case that's how it works.

Thanks again!
