Uber in France

We are planning to take the train from Villefranche-sur-Mer to Menton and spend the morning there. I thought we might Uber from there to Eze-le-Village to the Jardin d’Eze and spend the afternoon in Eze. And then either bus or Uber back to Villefranche.
We are in our early 70s and like the convenience and time-saving benefit of being delivered right to our destination rather than changing buses, walking up hills, etc. Not that money is no object, but sometimes it’s worth the trade-off!
Does anyone have experience with using Uber in that area? Do you use the same app I assume? Is it pretty available? Is there a better option - like taxis?

If you already have the Uber app on your phone, which I'm guessing you do, you can assess availability in real time without having to be physically there.

Just change the pickup location from your auto-filled current location to the desired pickup location (if the search doesn't work you may have to choose the option to "Set location on map" and manually choose a location on the map), the desired dropoff location and the normal Uber options will show up.

This works because Uber by default logically assumes that you are ordering a car from where they detect you are currently, but they give you the option to override that and choose a different pickup location because you might be ordering a car for someone else in a different location, you wish to be picked up somewhere slightly different than where you actually are, etc., and you can just use this functionality to choose an entirely different pickup location altogether.

Obviously don't actually go ahead and order a ride, but this is helpful to get a sense of what's possible. It's helpful to do this check a couple of times, ideally on the same day of the week and at the same time you would actually be taking the trips (which might make it difficult to check morning availability, since France is minimum several hours ahead of where you are, assuming you are in North America).

Thank you Andrew. So good to know. This will be our 2nd day in France, so I will have time to run a test request!

What he means is that you can run a test request even now from the United States. You don't have to be in France.

Our family group of four just returned from the French Riviera a few weeks ago. It was a wonderful trip! Our bases were Nice and Antibes. Walking was by far our main mode of transport - about 10 miles per day, but the weather was lovely and we enjoy walking. We used Ubers for these 4 particular journeys and I would highly recommend for these reasons - easy, prompt, efficient, good conversation with Uber drivers:

1) Nice airport to apartment rental office (near Old Nice)
2) Nice to Eze Village (Jardin d'Eze) - Uber was recommended mode of transport by our Nice-based cooking class instructor
3) Nice to Antibes (for new lodging just to switch things up)
4) Antibes to Nice airport

Based on the info on this forum and other sources I did quite a bit of pre-trip investigation into the Nice tram, buses, and trains between Riviera towns. In the end we only used these methods of transportation: walking, Ubers, and trains between Antibes/Cannes and Antibes/Monte Carlo. If we return would make those choices again. The Uber to/from Eze was particularly efficient. The bus stop at Eze to return to Nice was very crowded, which could have resulted in quite a wait.

Thank you, kaybird. We will be traveling from Nice to Èze Village in June, and I appreciate knowing how it worked for you.

Yes, exactly! If you are in Chicago you could order an Uber for a pickup in Paris right now.

Yes! Thank you kaybird! It’s a big help to hear from someone who actually just did what we are hoping to do and that it worked well for you.
As usual, the RS forum always comes through!
Thank you all!
