Uber from Gare Part Dieu

Has anyone used Uber from the PD to their destination? The accommodations I am looking at is close to the Town Hall, Palais de Justice and the Halles Paul Bocuse in the 3rd Arrondissement. I have no idea how far that is, and how busy it would be around 3 pm. I did do a search but those were old posts about Uber and from the airport.

"Are people allergic to taxis?"
LOL! I think that people prefer to be ripped off by the Uber corporation than have the possibility of being ripped off by an individual taxi driver.

@Ginger, you can see how far the location is from Part Dieu by getting directions on Google maps. It's about 1 kilometer from Part Dieu to the Halles Paul Bocuse and about 1.5 kilometers to the Palais de Justice.

I would walk 1 kilometer but am use to walking in cities and public transportation. Albeit I went out the wrong exit at Part Dieu before it is a big station.

Have you looked up the various distances on Google Maps? The first 2 that I looked at were only a few (less than 10) minutes from the station. There should be taxis right outside the door.

I am used to walking/working out so walking isn’t a problem, I’m more conceded if it could be raining or how tired we will be from jet lag that day.

I saw someone mention that with uber, there is no exchange of money and that's why they use it. i am not against a Taxi, though. Are the official taxi stand outside the station?

Yes, there are taxis. It’s a large station in a big city so naturally there are taxis outside. Just follow the signs. Don’t be surprised if the driver does not wish to take you for such a short distance relatively speaking. By the way, is it 3 PM on a weekday or a weekend day?

The Hôtel de Ville (City hall) in Lyon is in the 2nd arrondissement, on the Presqu'île. What you probably are referring to is the Mairie for the 3rd arrondissement. It and the courthouse (Palais de Justice) are southwest of Les Halles.

Personally, I would walk. You can exit out the west entrance of Part-Dieu, cross the street/transit mall (blvd. Vivier Merle), go into the large shopping mall (Westfield Part-Dieu) and follow the numerous signs to the Porte de La Lantern exit (near the Foot Locker store), which would put you out onto rue Servient, a short 3 block walk from the Mairie of the 3ème. As you exit the mall, you'll walk right by the Radisson hotel, which is called by most people "le crayon" because the shape of its tower looks (from a distance) like a fat brown pencil.

Having most of the walk indoors should address concerns about rain. The mall, however, is closed on Sunday.

I would follow Sammy's directions . I stayed in this area of Lyon for a week last Autumn , and the T1 tram runs from the west front of Part Dieu along the Rue Servient . Since my hotel was somewhat closer to the river , I took the tram an extra stop or so to Saxe Prefecture , and a short two block walk to my hotel The hotal was about a two block walk to Les Halles

At most it will only be an 8 - 10 minute taxi ride and not expensive. Note that the taxi stand is on the east side of the station and just to the left as you exit. If you go to the right, it's only for prearranged pickups.

Thanks for the walking tips about going through the mall. We arrive on a Wednesday.

As soon as I have an address, I will give more details. Thank you all. Much appreciated.

Sammy, thanks. I found this apartment which is available for my time in late April. Public transport or walk should be fine? I am terrible with maps and location :-(

Address: 74 rue Bossuet lyon 69006.

We used a taxi to do exactly what you are describing. It was easy.
