My daughter is doing a program in Nice for a month. So, I'm planning to stay nearby for the duration. I'm thinking 2 weeks in Villefranche-sur-Mer. (My French is rusty so I'll do my own immersion program during that time and also working remotely.) Then I think I'd like to travel from there for about 10-12 days, coming back to Nice for the last few days. I'd love some perspective on doing 2 weeks in Villefranche-du-Mer (planning on doing day trips from there). And then ideas for the 10-12 days away. I'm thinking maybe the Loire Valley or perhaps heading over to Barcelona or Florence. So many choices! I know it's a wide set of options to pose here but thought I'd see what ideas you all might have. Thanks!
I like your idea of staying in Villefranche sur Mer.
The whole area is rich for day trips. We spent two weeks in Nice and did those day trips.
Villefranche would be a wonderful base from which to explore southern France,
No specific ideas for your extra 10-12 days but I would favor Florence.
Thanks Suki for the confirmation on the two weeks in VDM. I appreciate that.
And miuccia, this trip would be in the month of June start to end. Appreciate the input on the travel to Florence. We would be flying in and out of Nice but was hoping for trains for the other trips. Thanks!
Check recent weather statistics for your intended second destination. I know Florence is miserably hot for much of the summer; late June might not be a great time to go there.
This is a link to the source I use for detailed, day-by-day weather statistics. I usually check the most recent five years. Use the pull-down box at the right, just above the graph, to change the month and year displayed. You can use the Search box to find the same information for other places you might consider.
We're staying in Ville Franche for 5 nights in early September and then heading to St. Tropez and then Remy-de-Provence. Plan to visit Nice (of course), Menton, Antibes, St. Jean cap Ferrat, Arles, Chateauneauf de Pape and maybe some other places along the way. I'll let you know how we liked staying in Ville Franche :)
Whenever I need inspiration for train travel, I turn to the Man in Seat 61. Here is his page about departing from Nice:

KST looking forward to hearing about your experience. That will super helpful. Enjoy!
Thank you G3rryCee. This is a great resource I had never heard of. Appreciate it!
