In mid April, we are driving from Basque (Bayonne or San Sebastian) country to Barcelona.. I'd like to spend 2 nights in the Pyrenees with access to a high peak via cable car. Thinking similar to Chamonix, FR to Aguille du Midi or Lauterbrunnen, CH to Schilthorn... Initial research shows La Mongie to Pic du Midi which seems to be the most common search result. But I'm wondering if there are other possibilities. Doesn't matter if it's the French or Spanish side of the border. Also, I know mountain weather is unpredictable and April is a transition month, but I'm willing to take a chance.

Pic du Midi is a great choice. Top of the world views. There is an observatory and it is possible to spend the night. Don't miss it! Brad

There are only two choices I am aware of: Pic du Midi, and the Artouste train near Pau. I am pretty sure the latter is closed in April, but the former is open until 21 April 2024. If the weather does not cooperate, you could visit Lourdes instead.
