Two Nights French Pyrenees

We are driving from San Sebastian to Begur, Spain through the French Pyrenees in June. We have two nights to spend, and would appreciate suggestions on towns to stay in and scenic routes between them.

We’d like to drive the scenic D918 and D618 as much as possible. Looking at a map, spending the first night in Luz-Saint-Sauveur and the second in Tarascon-sur-Ariège could break up the drive into roughly even segments over three days.

Some of the sites that interest us are the Col du Tourmalet and Col d'Aspin. Mountain vistas and lovely French villages are the goal. We want to stay off of highways as much as possible, at least for the first two days. We are willing to speed up the last day into Begur.

We did this same trip but had more time alloted before arriving in Begur. Our favourite stay in the Pyrenees was in Sauveterre-de-Cominges at the Hostellerie des & Molles. Their restaurant was filled with Parisians, excellent. It is a country inn. We also spent a night in Olaron Ste- Marie.
We stopped at Carcassone for a night and then to our favourite spot, Collioure. Collioure is now one of our favourite waterfront towns in Europe. We stayed in Begur at the Parador, stunning location.

South of the Carcassonne but still in the Pyrenees is Foix, with a fantastic castle. Near by is Mirepoix with a well preserved historic center.
