Two new questions ...

Are there clothes hangers in the closets in the hotels in Paris?

What type of plug adaptor would you recommend? Primarily for charging our cell phones and possibly running a blow dryer?

Many thanks!

Yes, there will be clothes hangers. You can always ask for a few more - sometimes they're skimpy with them.

Most blow dryers now have a switch to change back and forth from 110v to 220v. If yours doesn't, I would suggest buying a new travel one. But honestly, I don't think I've stayed anyplace that did not have a blowdryer in the bathroom. I left mine at home and I'm glad I did.

Rick Steves sells the correct adaptors for Europe for $1 apiece - I bought several of them (I already had some), and they work very well (I'm in Europe right now).

I have never stayed in a hotel that did not have clothes hangers in the closet. It could be only three but it has never been zero.
I would not use an adaptor with a blow dryer or a flat iron. Three times in my travels in France I have seen others cause electrical problems with that. Use the blow dryer provided by the hotel. For charging my phone I use an Orei adaptor. My husband uses an International adaptor made by JMFONE.

Many N. American hair dryers can switch between 110 and 220. However the amount of hot air at 220 is low and slow. But a drying iron? Invitation for fireworks.

My thoughts exactly - I will use the blow dryer in the hotel.

Years ago, I traveled to England with a friend of mine. We stayed in a B&B - I plugged my blow dryer in and the electricity in the house went out. Needless to say, the owners were not amused!

Thanks to all for the feedback on the adaptors!

I have not stayed in a hotel in Europe in the last 15 years that did not have a good hair dryer (the day of those worthless weird tubes blowing warm air are long gone). And every apartment we have had has had a blow dryer -- I'd never carry one. In the odd chance you rent a place without one, just go buy one.

I do still stumble upon underpowered old-fashioned hotel driers from time to time, but if you really have a lot of hair to dry (or curly hair which needs a specific diffuser nozzle head), popping by Darty and buying a 20-30€ model is both fun (it gives you a glimpse of what French people have in their homes) and fast!

Every hotel we stayed in had plenty of hangers and the bathrooms had hairdryers. The hotel websites should be clear on whether or not they have hairdryers.

As for adapters, we liked this one because of the extra USB ports:

You the plug part clips on so you can buy an attachment for the UK or other countries too. It let me charge three devices at once - 2 off USB (my iPad takes USB c) and one off the plug.
