I am staying in Nice for 5 days in late August and have 2 extra days on my own before heading to Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. Should I stay 2 more days in Nice or head somewhere new? Looking for recommendations on place to stay for 2 nights. Will be using public transportation. Thanks!
If I had more time in the Riviera, I would use if to go to the Verdun Gorge and stay in Moustiers St. Marie.
The Verdon gorge is a great suggestion, but unfortunately inaccessible by public transportation. You have to stay on or near the coast: Cassis, Marseille or Aix-en-Provence would be good options, depending on what you are looking for.
Cassis and Marseille are linked by train to Nice and to l'Isle-sur la Sorgue. Do mind that the train station in Cassis is a 20 minute walk to the center (and more on the way back, it is uphill). I believe there is a shuttle in summer, too.
Aix-en-Provence is quicker to reach by bus (public bus LER 20 or private bus Flixbus, or possibly Blablabus) from Nice (although the train ride is more scenic).
Aix to l'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is best by bus (LER 17).
How about Cassis? It's not the Riviera per se but it's accessible by public transportation and on the way to Isle-sur-la Sorgue.
