I would love to hear from someone who lives there or has been there in July. Is it too hot and sunny for touring the area and all of the small towns in July? 90's are too hot for us.
No one can predict temperatures 6 months in advance, but you can check the weather reports for each day in July 2023 in Nice here:
Temperatures in the low 90s are basically standard in inland Provence in July, and 100+ does happen in the likes of Aix and Avignon.
Coastal Provence typically hovers around 85-90, but it often exceeds 90, and it is more humid. Same for Nice, roughly speaking - often even less hot but even more humid.
It does get hot, and hottest inland. Where we have stayed near Orange has pool side living and outdoor eating. Expect heat. Cooler on the coast.
but it is also true that weather everywhere in Europe is more and more unpredictable. I have decided that you never know.
Very little air conditioning. Your touring needs to start in the early morning, break for lunch and resume after 3 pm.
Nice generally does not get as hot as inland western Provence. The weather generally will peak in the low to high 80s, but last summer was definitely hotter. Some days per year will break into the low 90s. The opposite is true, as people note, of places like Nimes, near where the hottest temperatures occur in France.
Go to weather.com and plug in your city and then click on monthly. When the current month comes up there is a box in the upper middle part of the page where you can click on a month and year. So I do last year and the month I will be traveling to get a pretty good indication of the weather--at least as it was last year or even the year before.
The website timeanddate.com has actual, historical, day-by-day weather data for most places of interest to tourists. The statistics usually go back at least 10 years. I like to check the most recent five years to see what range of temperatures I may run into.
