I recently read an article about the stained glass museum in Troyes. Does anyone have experience w/day trip from Paris to Troyes?! I’d appreciate any info.
Thanks!
Hi,
From Paris to Troyes it's easy.... direct by train. The train dep from Gare de l'Est in the 10th Arron. You take the regional train, the TER
Thank you! 🙂
Cool town with lots of higgledy-piggledy half-timbered buildings and virtually zero foreign tourists.
Hi,
Should you be interested in something else other than that above, there is a town connected to Napoleonic history nearby , if you opt for the rental car, the town of Brienne-le-Chateau..
The town located ca. 42 KM (ca. 26 miles) from Troyes in a northeastward direction is steeped in the history of Napoleon. It's where he went to military school amidst all those from the nobility. The town markets itself on this connection.
The town is also where the Allies (Russians and Prussians) in the invasion of France first tangled with Napoleon, they got beat. That military school building is now the Napoleon museum, was expanded in the last few years prior to the pandemic. I don't know if the Brienne can be reached by public transport.
Troyes is great! Amazing cathedral, lovely town center...good call. I never made it to the stained glass museum (not sure it interests me tbh) yet I found plenty to do.
It deserves an overnight, even, but a day trip will do - the train ride is fast...as long as there is no engineering work. There will be a lot of works on that line in the coming months and perhaps years (electrification).
If the trains do not work and you want to visit a town with a medieval flair, Provins is lovely. And included in a Navigo pass despite being 50 miles from Paris!
