Trip to Nice in June....Where else should we go?

Hi everyone. I found relatively reasonable flights to Nice yesterday so went ahead and booked for 9 days. I am an uber planner so going in early June is a bit stressful for me, but want to make it happen regardless. Taking my 10 year old daughter for her first overseas trip. She travels well for a few days but then gets a bit homesick and challenged unless something stimulates her interest.

She loves good food as do I so hopefully enough charcuterie and cheese plates washed down with some gelato will keep her happy. I am looking for advice on filling out my trip. At this time we are set to arrive and depart from Nice. Going to check airlines for departures elsewhere that keep my costs about the same and may provide other options for points of travel.

I have been to Provence and would go back in a heartbeat. The goal is to pick two destinations and keep them as a home base for the trip. I think Nice and surrounding areas could fill out 3 days as we both love the beach and there seems to be plenty to do in the area.

I need some thoughts and suggestions on where else we could possibly go that would provide a good home base with easy day trips using a car or TGV if they are available. Not opposed to Italy for a few days vs staying in France if there are some good places to consider.

Thank you all for your thoughts and help.

There are so many wonderful and easy day trips from Nice! Heading on bus or train to the east: Villefranche, Monaco, Cap Ferrat( a favorite), Eze, Menton .
Or train West: Another big favorite of ours is Antibes.
Save a full day for interesting Nice. Formerly part of Italy, it has its own distinctive culture.

Your second base could be Avignon or any of the cities around there, especially if you'll have a car. Avignon is probably the best hub for trains and buses. It has TGV service but other trains ought to work just as well for other Provence places. You might consider Marseilles or Lyon for your departing flight, depending on cost and schedule, rather than returning to Nice.
