we will be in center paris and are thinking of taking a train to giverny....any advise? We will be there the end of March
Closed until April 1.
Giverny is open this year from 28 March - 1 November. It can be a challenge to buy the tickets online but it's well-worth it to be able to go around the ticket buying line. As Rick suggests, take the earliest train, then the bus, paying attention to the return bus and train times. http://fondation-monet.com/en/
Oh, sorry about my error. It still says April 1 on the website.
If you're just interested in visiting Monet's home and gardens, a possible alternative to the train would be to take a tour van, which would pick you up in Paris, take you to visit the home, and bring you back. Several companies offer this service.
We took either the first or second train of the day to Vernon. There were buses there for a minimal price that took us to the gardens ( or you could walk - it's a level walk but it's not a short walk). At that time of the day the lines were short, so we just got the tickets at the gate. Buying ahead does save you time, but if the weather is bad,you may want to reconsider.
