I'm coming closer to finalizing our trip (which will be in May). I've always wanted to go to Brittany. We have been to Bayeux and done the beach tours and to Mt. St. Michel. For this time I have planned to go to St. Malo, Dinan, Le Guerno to see the zoo, Lehon, Vitre, Fougeres, Honfleur (been there once before but we want to see the impressionist art again), and Rouen. Are we overdoing the stops in Brittany in terms of seeing more of the same. Will we find uniqueness in each of the town? My husband and I love history and impressionist art and will get some of the art in Honfleur, Rouen and, of course, Paris. Do these stops make sense? Thanks.
Your programme sounds good, but I would advise at least one more coastal town in Brittany, since the sea is part of its character, why not Cancale or Saint Briac, not far away from Saint Malo.
Just an idea that may not be practical. You could replace Honfleur in Normandie with Vannes in Brittany. Vannes is a really nice port town with a big medieval center and port. Plus you would have close access to Carnac, adding something completely different to your itinerary.
Thanks to both of you - am looking into these because they sound like great suggestions.
Especially in May, you might look into public gardens that might be worth a visit. They can be off the main roads, however. I'd look at a library book on French gardens before hitting the internet. Several artists lived in Dinard, but we didn't find it to be a must-see town at all. However, it's less crowded than St. Malo, which has a lot more charm once you can't see the parking lot anymore.
