Trip in July to France - Flying into CDG - Looking for Itinerary ideas

Hi all,

I have been looking for a fairly priced (in travel terms post covid) trip to Europe this summer. I found one coming into Paris Mid July that is palatable. This is not my ideal time for travel in Europe but wanted to take advantage while we could.

I am in need of suggestions for our itinerary as it is a fairly last minute trip to plan. While I would love 2+ nights in Paris, I am concerned about the Pre-Olympic Games affect on the city. I have read about certain areas being blocked off and/or heavily screened and guarded, making the major sites a pain in the butt.

We love Provence but thinking mid July may be a scorcher. Was looking at flying into Geneva and then head to Annecy and Chamonix for the week. Flight times were not that favorable however. Would still love this area as a consideration but train times look to be 5+ hours to get there.

This will be my daughter's first trip to Europe. She will be 11 at the time.
Would love to get ideas from the group on potential places to go.

Trip is only 8 nights.

It's July, so it's hot. Why not head north? Belgium or the Netherlands? Or take the Eurostar to London.

Please don’t get me wrong, but almost a year ago you posted a very similar question. Several people replied, but you never came back to the thread. Did that trip fell through? Or did you go and visited France? If so, where did you visit? That would be helpful to know so people don’t recommend places you visited last year already.

I would fly into Geneva and take the bus to Annecy and stay 3 nights; then take the bus from Annecy to Chamonix and stay 3 nights; then, take the train to Montreux stay two nights. Take the train from Montreux to Geneva airport to fly back.

Will look into Belgium or Netherlands. We would fly direct into London but did not want a full city experience.

In regards to last year, yes plans changed and we did not head overseas.
