Traveling to France's Christmas Markets Around Strasbourg

Greetings to all,
We are planning a trip to visit the French Christmas markets bewteen Geneva, Switzerland and Metz, France. Trying to visit as many of the smaller ones in between. Has anyone else done this recently? We will be taking the train instead of driving as you never know the road conditions in December. Probably leaving early December. Thank you for any help!

Hi Steve, train tickets go on sale four months out, and the earlier you purchase them, the less expensive they’ll be. I find using trainline, com less finicky with American credit cards than sncf.com, but both will get you there.

If you haven’t already bought airline tickets, you could consider flying into one city (CDG?) taking the train to Metz, then Strasbourg, then Geneva and flying home from there. It eliminates the need for backtracking to CDG. Tickets aren’t usually any more expensive flying open-jaw either.

Thanks HappyToBeHere, we were thinking of flying into Geneva and flying out of Paris, makes more sense instead of backtracking. We went to central Europe several years ago, flying into Munich and flying home from Budapest. Those Christmas markets were great but this time we want to visit the smaller towns.
