Traveling to Bayuex/Normandy in May.

We are taking the ferry from Portsmouth to Caen in May. What is the best way to get to Bayuex? The ferry terminal is located outside Caen and the train station is in Caen. Has anyone taken the taxi all the way to Bayuex? We are staying at the Hotel Churchill. Any suggestions on tour companies for the area "tours"?

Hi,

From Caen one takes the regional train to Bayeux. I'll most likely be doing that in early July, if I do a take trip from Paris to Bayeux at all.

I second the above poster you can take a train it is only 20 minute ride. But if you got a lot of luggage the Taxi will run you about 40 euros. The Hotel Churchill is a nice hotel. The concierge can set you up with a tour of the area

About 4 years ago we took a tour with Dale Booth - we met at the Churchill Hotel and a van load went from there. Since that time, Dale has his own tour company. You can find him on line at "Dale Booth Normandy Tours" - he was absolutely fantastic!

It's very easy to take the train to Bayeux and then the Churchill is within walking distance. We've stayed there and it was nice.

For tours, try Overlord.

The ferry doesn't really go to Caen (the ferry site is misleading). It goes to the port of Oistreham, which is 10 miles, or 22 minutes by car from the train station in Caen. Bayeux would be a little over a half hour drive. I took a taxi from the Oistreham ferry terminal to Caen once, but I didn't pay—so I don't know how much it would cost.
