My daughter and I will be picking up a car in Nice on a Thursday. We want the best route to Avignon to see the best places. We will be staying Thurs. night, Friday night and Sat. nights in Avignon. I can't get a grip on how much we can do in 2 full days. Any suggestions as to what to see each day. Remember we have time before we get there. When we leave Avignon, we will be headed to Lourdes. I know we definitely want to stop in Carissonne. Any where else we should see on the way to Lourdes? I know I have asked a bunch of questions, but have not planned a trip by ourselves since I was young. Not interested in big tours. Want to live the culture as much as possible.
http://www.viamichelin.com/web/Routes recommends three different "Discovery" routes for tourists, the slowest of which takes 6 hours driving time between Nice and Avignon, but you'll split that over two days. Smaller Provencal villages, such as may have been recommended on your earlier posts, can be seen in a few hours, if that's how much time you have, and the same goes for the Carcassonne. So I'd say that these two days will allow you to make several stops, but you might keep your list a bit flexible, to follow what most interests you in the moment.
