I understand we cannot access a train directly from the airport to Versailles, but must take a bus to the Invalides stop, and then get an RER train to Versailles. This will be a bit awkward with luggage, but we are game -- we'd just like a bit more help on the details of this. Can anyone give us a bit more info on any or all of this first part of our trip?
There is an app for the Paris metro which will show you how to get there . You will have to take the rer b line into Paris ,then a subway over to get to the rer c line to take you into Versailles . My wife and I did it a few years ago , it's about 1-1/2 to 2 hours . The app is very helpful and shows all the subway lines and stops to get on and off
You don't need to take a metro to transfer. The route is RER B from the airport to St. Michel station. There you transfer to the RER C to Versaille. It's an 1:20. Check ratp.fr, the regional transportation authority, including for inside Paris.
I think you may be referring to a construction project that shut down a section of the RER C line between Gare d'Austerlitz and Javel for about 2 weeks in August. That project is complete and there is now normal operation in that section, at least 6 am to 11 pm. As was mentioned, it is a change of underground platforms at St Michel-Notre Dame. Follow the signs and take the RER C train marked VICK on the front. Overhead video screens will show the train going to Versailles Rive Gauche-Chateau.
My heartfelt thanks to all of you! This has simplified things greatly for us!
