Reading online about Blablacar, which sounds similar to Uber or Lyft. Wondering if anyone can offer any opinions about it. Wanting to get from Chamonix to Lyon but not wanting to be on a bus for 4-5 hours. Or would the train be a better option?
Same question for a Lyon to Geneva trip.
Many thanks.
Getting from Lyon to Chamonix isn't easy. Trains and buses take a considerable amount of time. Even driving is 2.5 hours. Are these day trips you are planning to Chamonix and Geneva?
No. Going to Lyon for 3 nights, then Geneva for 2 nights. Just trying to determine if the ride sharing service is reliable, since it appears to be the quickest way to get to Lyon.
You could take the bus from Chamonix to Geneva (1 hr. 20 minutes) and the train from there to Lyon (2 hours). Just be sure the bus is one that stops at the main Geneva train station. Or at the airport and add some time for the short train trip from there to the main station.
BlaBlaCar is not like Uber or Lyft. It is a platform where folks like you and me offer the free seats in their car when they are planning to drive somewhere.
It is extremely popular but I would not recommend it for people on a fixed "tourist" schedule; rides do get cancelled, luggage space is not guaranteed; driver might have no English whatsoever, etc.
Edit: I am not a BlaBlaCar driver, but almost everybody I know has been in one. It is often the cheapest way to get from A to B. But savings are marginal in the broader context of an overseas trip.
Interesting reply by a BlaBlacar driver, apparently. I also saw several sites indicating rideshare but not enough information. Did see a DayTrip website that offers door to door service but is pricey at 61euro apiece. Sill hoping for more suggestions. Thanks
