Traveling from CDG to Chartres

We will arrive at CDG early afternoon after 2 fairly long flights. Trying to decide if we should take the trains or engage a car service to drive us or ?. Would love to hear suggestions... I already know the cost for the car would be more. Thanks!

Tough call on this for you. Looks like you can get a train with one transfer, spending 2 1/2 hours on the trip. Then walk, taxi or public transit to your hotel.

Or you can get in a car and go straight to your hotel. You have to decide what these two alternatives are worth to you.

If I was traveling alone I would take the train. If I was traveling with my wife we would take the car.

If I was with my husband, he would insist on the car service and I would agree to it, complain about the cost and afterwards agree that it was worth it.

I don't know how much a car service costs but I imagine a lot. It is pretty easy to do by train and the walk from the train station to the Cathedral is very short and easy. But door to door by car is tempting.

An alternative option, would be to take a taxi to Gare Montparnasse and the train from there. The taxi is a flat fare, 62€ IIRC.
A taxi/car service from CDG to Chartres can't be less than 200-250€ I guess.

Just did this 2 weeks ago and I second the advice from Balso...taxi to Montparnasse, then train to Chartres.

Lovely trip! Have fun!

FWIW the taxi fare is 65 and that is what I would do -- it is an easy direct train trip with the station in Chartres very close to the Cathedral
