Traveling by train from Marseille to Avignon

I am traveling by train from Marseille to Avignon in October. Should I purchase my ticket in advance? Where can I find the most accurate information on the train schedule and fares? Is there a shuttle at the airport that will take me to the train station? I don't speak French, and traveling solo.

For the most accurate information on fares and schedules go https://www.sncf-connect.com, the official site of the French rail service. Are you trying to get to Avignon city center or the TGV station outside of town? There is a train station near the Marseilles airport and there is one in the city. See https://www.marseille-airport.com/access-car-parks/access/trains for information o how to get to the Vitrolles train station, the station closer to the airport.

If you are flying into Marseille and intend to directly take the train, you have to
evaluate the risk of missing the train connection due to delays in your flight as to
how close to your flight arrival you want to book the train for.

Airport websites are usually good places for info for how to get from the airport
to other places.

Avignon has two train stations; the one downtown, and the TGV station which
is a bit of a trek from the city. Make sure you know which one you are going to/
want to go to.

From the airport, there is a bus to Vitrolles Marseille Aéroport station, where there are regular trains to Avignon Centre.

The bus is Line 13A, very frequent.
The train runs every hour or so, and does not need to be booked in advance - tickets do not run out and the price does not change.

Train schedules are available on SNCF Connect, which you can also use to buy your ticket (if you don't want to mess with ticket machines).
