traveling between Barcelona and the Cinque Terre

We will be visiting Barcelona for 5 days in mid-June, leaving to go to the Cinque Terre, and have 2-3 days in-between reservations.
I'm looking into trains to make the trip, perhaps stopping in Nice.

Any thoughts as to a 2-3 day itinerary along the Riviera as we make our way to the C.T.?
As always I value everyone's advice!

You can take a cheap nonstop flight from Barcelona to Nice depending on how light you pack. Sleep in Nice where you take direct trains or buses to get to places of interest, however, to get to the Cinque Terre by train will take most of the day and require a couple connections.
