Travel to Pairs & return

My wife and I are doing the RS Paris and Heart of France tour in Sept, 11 days plus a couple extras before and after. We are thinking of taking high speed train from London to Paris but the return flight home from Paris seems frightfully expensive. Even taking the train back to London and then home is very pricey. Anyone have experience with similar travel routing but at an economical cost?

What fares are you seeing that you feel are "pricey" -- and from where to/from London or Paris ? What would you expect as "ecomomical"?
Some people like Icelandic.

Try using the +/- 2 day function on your flight search engine. Often you can find big savings by just moving the departure and/or the return dates a bit.

It should cost no more than the average of the two round trips to fly into London and home from Paris or vice versa -- we have been doing this for over 30 years -- of course we used to be able to do it for $500 and now it is more like $1100.

Open jaw flights are not generally more expensive than round trips. We only do non-stops and do not save a few bucks by complicated connections and routes.

Are you using the "multicity" option in the search engine so you can book a round trip that goes into London and home from Paris? It shouldn't cost much more than a standard round trip.

Did you try Norwegian? I just checked, and for a mid-September flight out of London Gatwick to JFK, assuming you would be willing to fly out of London, the "Low Fare" rate is $350.50 per person.

In case you don't know, the Eurostar ticket price through the tunnel is much lower when bought long in advance than near the departure date. Last-minute price can more than double an early purchase. Same is true for the short-hop airfares between London and Paris. As to trans-Atlantic flights, prices have gradually risen over the last three years and early signs this year suggest they will be as high or higher. Also, the increases used to start in late May and reverse in mid-September; this year the rates are rising in April (it's too soon to guess about your return in Sept.)

I cannot tell where you call "home." USA? Check out the new WOW Airline. I found Boston-Reykjavik for $169 or $228 with extras like baggage...A circuitous route may prove much cheaper.
