Travel time to Orly

We have a 10:45 am flight from Orly to Newark, NJ on Friday, March 20, 2015. How much time should we allow to get to the airport from an as yet unknown hotel in Paris? Another option is to revise our itinerary so that we come from the Loire Valley. Is it feasible to drive from Amboise to Orly the morning of our flight or is that asking for trouble? We would have to return our rental car. Thanks.

Anne,
I would not dive from Amboise the morning of my flight (too many variables) plus the dive is two hours or more. You would have to leave around 6:00 am. Also you will have to allow time to return the car. Two weeks ago, it took me 30 minutes to return my rental. If you leave from Paris the metro will be the fastest way. I would recommend the Paris Metro app for your smartphone. Free app that is great. Download the offline maps for the app also. In your spare time (before your trip) play with the app to get used to how it works. You can enter where you are and where you want to go, then the app will give you a step by step route with travel times. For me personally, I always stay in a hotel at or around the airport my last night ( just to make thing easier)
Hope this helps and Have a Great Trip.

To be clear the "metro" does not go as far out as Orly. The most popular routes from central Paris are the RER Lines B or C, or the non-stop Orlybus bus service from the Opera. Have a look at prices and times, and then pick a hotel close to Opera, or a stop on either of the two RER lines.
