Hi Members,
My friend and I are renting a car at the Rennes train station around 12:00 on a Saturday. My plan is to bypass Rennes and drive towards Rochefort en terre and 1-2 other towns. We would like to visit Rochefort in the evening since I read that the town is lit up starting in April, and then drive to Vannes and stay the night. Would like your opinion if this is doable. We don't want to rush things, but we also only have 1 night in this area before we head up to Dinan.. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Merci, Angela
It would probably be easier for the folks who know Brittany well to help you if you told us what other towns you hope to see. I really liked both Vitre and Fougeres, but they are east of Rennes.
Hi Acaven,
When leaving Rennes, our list of towns, include Paimport, Josselin and Rochenfort en terre. Once we leave Rochenfort en terre, we plan on staying the night in Vannes. Next day, explore Carnac and Aurey, then head up to Dinan as a base for 3 nights. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Tx.
ViaMichelin gives an estimated total driving time of 3 hr. 22 min., so it doesn't sound crazy. But you have three stops along the way and I have no clue how much time you'll lose trying to find parking and then walking to the part of town you want to see.
I suspect central/historical Vannes has a lot of pedestrian-only streets, so you might want to be careful about what hotel you choose for the night. It's a very attractive place and not small. I'm afraid you won't have time to see much of it.
Only having the afternoon, and including the drive time, spending 1.5 - 2 hours in 2 towns would be enough, probably in Josselin and Rochefort (except if you usually spend very little time in places you visit, and are ready to arrive late in Vannes, after 8pm).
Thank you for your valuable information. Based on your comments, we’ll probably visit rochefort en terre before heading to Vannes. We’ll explore Josselin on the way to Dinan.
