Can anyone help! After months of planning to tour Europe in my 1990 Land Rover Defender 90 I have just found out that I need to pay my Zone Charges up-front. When trying to register my ‘90’ for a ‘Carte Grise’ I was told it was over 30 years old and could not be registered. However, I’m informed I can apply for a ‘Vehicule de Collection’ certificate, but I will need to be a resident of France!!!😖 Has anyone else had this problem, and is there anyway around my problem?
Looking forward to hearing from anyone that can help.
What country is the vehicle registered in?
What do you mean by zone charges?
Where do you intend to travel?
Thank you for your prompt reply. My vehicle is UK registered. The Zone charges are the same as our ‘Congestion Charges’ and appear in most European Cities. My journey will cover most of Central Europe.
Why are you trying to register your car in France? (Carte Grise).
If you are just travelling as a tourist, just take the original of your registration ceriticate, insurance, MOT etc.
I think that what you hat you actually need for France is a Critair sticker - https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/R59473?lang=en
Not sure about other countries, but they may have the same, if you Google.
The AA or RAC websites for driving abroad have helpful information.
Where you may encounter a problem is if your MOT runs out during your trip - this will then invalidate your insurance.
