Travel in French Alps

My husband and I are planning a 3 week car trip around France.
We plan to fly into Paris about September 25 and return Oct 15 to the US.

We would like to know what the chances will be near Chamonix if the cog train and lifts such as Aiguille du Midi and Helbronner might still be operating if we head that way before October 1.
We welcome input about getting around in that area and other tips of things to see and do in a 2 day period.
Thank you for any responses.

We were in Chamonix Oct 15 and trams were running. For off season, and compared to Colorado ski towns, was busy enough. Stores seem to close in afternoon, like Italy.

I went after mid-September and it was a perfect time to be there. There's a good chance for a clear day to see the mountains. I stayed two nights. It was cloudy the day I arrived but scheduled to be clear the next day - and was beautiful. I also took Helbronner but I heard they had construction this year. I'm not sure if that will be completed before your trip?

The two were upwards of 100 euro to ride. It's more than I'd normally spend on an activity but I was glad I experienced it.
