Travel from Paris to Zurich and back

We're planning a trip that involves travel from Paris to Zurich, and then back again a couple of weeks later. Our inclination is to do both legs by train although we haven't traveled in Europe by train before. We'd appreciate advice, especially about routes and booking - thanks.

There are direct TGV Lyria trains between Paris and Zurich. Takes 4 hours and would be much faster than flying when you consider minimum check in times, security, luggage check, transport airport to city center.

You can book at either French rail site or www.sbb.ch/en.

I much prefer the train on that route. It is not particularly scenic but it is pleasantly varied. In the coming months there are some works that will reduce frequencies at least until December, but you should still be able to make this journey.

Thanks - this is super helpful. Does it make sense to take a different train route on the return? We'll have most of a day and we would like a scenic experience, if possible.

I don't think the scenery is all that special between Paris and Switzerland that it would warrant taking a longer and probably more expensive route. Especially after two weeks in Switzerland, where the scenery is unmatched.
