Travel from Paris CDG Airport to Chartres

We are going on the Loire and the South France tour and we are trying to find out the best way to travel from the airport to Chartres. Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated..

Taxi (currently a fixed price if 58€) or train to Gare Montparnasse and then catch a train to Chartres at Gare Montparnasse. The train will involve taking the RER B from the airport and then making a transfer to the Metro. You have some choices for that trip. You can get ideas for how to make that journey here I'd take a taxi.

I'm on the Loire tour here in a few weeks and I have hired a car service (Jetcab, which my sister recommended) to take me from CDG to Gare Montparnasse because I will be a bit tired and out of it initially. Also didn't want to deal with a potentially shmarmy taxi driver or multiple bus/train changes. However, I do enjoy the train in general, so I will be taking the TER the rest of the way to Chartres. Should be more awake by then. 😉

There is no reason to book a cab and the cab companies generally won't take bookings from CDG except when a specialized car e.g. car seats for kids is required. So an arranged ride is likely to be far less reliable than just getting in the official cab line and taking a cab for 58 Euro. It really could not be easier or more reliable. There are places I book rides ahead because I don't feel competent to deal with potential cab issues but Paris is not one of them. You are far more likely to be left standing while the private ride keeps your money claiming you weren't there when they came.

Taxis are a way of life in Paris, particularly to and from the airports and train stations. Just get in the official taxi line. It's a fixed fare. No need for suspicion or negative characterization as stated above.

I agree with Janet and Bets, who both have a lot more Paris experience than I do. Just go to the official taxi stand at the airport and the dispatcher will put you in a safe, licensed cab with a capable driver. If you can say "Gare Montparnasse" the driver will do the rest. Ignore anyone who approaches you in the airport terminal offering you a ride, they'll rip you off.
