Wondering if it's doable to make a 12:30pm flight at CDG, if arriving at ORY at 8:50am on a Monday morning, coming from Spain? Flying from CDG to Iceland and then US. Is the train a quick enough option or is this out of the question? Tickets are more than $100+ less to fly into ORY.
Probably No. I wouldn't risk it.
Do you have checked luggage?
Do you realize if you miss your connection you will have to buy a full fare ticket on Icelandair?
The train from ORY to CDG is about 1:30 if everything is working correctly.
Nope. You won't make your US-bound flight.
Keep in mind for international flights out of CDG, you should be at the airport three hours prior to departure.
I would never risk it.
Getting from Orly to CDG on a Monday morning in 34 minutes doesn’t seem anywhere near realistic to me.
You should be at CDG 2 hours before departure time for your flight to Iceland so that means arriving by 10:30 AM. With traffic, it should take between 45 minutes and an hour to get from Orly to CDG. That gives you 30 to 45 minutes for things like flight delays, collecting luggage if you have checked luggage, waiting in the taxi line, traffic delays (almost a sure thing in Paris), etc. I would not risk it but it's all about your tolerance for risk and your ability to purchase another ticket on short notice.
Two hours advance time at CdG is the absolute minimum in my experience. You have to navigate several line-ups, including security for hand luggage separate from checked bags. Trans-Atlantic flights, especially on American-based carriers, want passengers in the plane, not the departure lounge, a half-hour early. Adding it up, that's a stressful commute.
A taxi website may well have estimated 34 minutes, but it has nothing to do with the reality for the time needed for a vehicle to get between those two places on a weekday morning. Maybe it would apply, say Sunday at 2:30 am when there's no one else on the road, but that is not when the OP needs to make the journey. Sometimes it's necessary to apply a little critical thinking to information found on the internet (especially by parties with a specific interest).
34 min was the figure from a taxi website
other websites estimate 45-50 min
To cover the 42 kms from ORY to CDG in 34 minutes, one would need to average approximately 75 kph for the entire trip, a near impossibility, even on a Sunday morning, given that the shortest route requires one taking a good stretch of the périphérique where the speed limit is only 70 kms.
The trip might be done in 45 to 50 minutes given no traffic. Anyone who has driven much around Paris knows that zero traffic situations rarely occur, maybe on a Sunday morning in August.
If I were planning to travel by road from ORY to CDG for a connecting flight, I would allow no fewer than 90 minutes, knowing that 60 minutes is a good estimate but one allowing no error margin.
The question: ¨can I make a ORG to CDG connection allowing 3+40?¨ It might be possible to do under absolutely pristine conditions; maybe.
It's not a connection I might attempt.
Too much drama to save $100, less the cost of travel between airports. And adding the cost of Tums, the savings are even less.
I would look at saving a few bucks somewhere else, than on this idea.
Making this reservation and setting up this connection to save $100 would be a great example of "penny wise pound foolish."
Thank you for all the input! I appreciate the advice!
